“Men are disturbed not by things, but by the view which they take of them.”

(Epictetus)

Why CBH?

While there are usually aspects of CBH in all approaches I take with clients, you can choose to come for CBH specifically. Some people respond well to CBH because there is an order in the process which can be learned and applied to all things for life. Others prefer a more eclectic and flexible approach. There are benefits in both approaches and nothing is set in stone. If you are curious, we can work out together what might be the best way for you to meet your goals.

Cognitive Bevavioural Hypnotherapy (CBH)

Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (CBH) utilises the principals of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and re-enforces them using hypnotherapy. The particular approach of CBH that I use is called Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT).

The basic principal of CBH is that it is not events which cause us distress, but what we believe about those events. And you can see the truth of this for yourself. Have you ever felt upset about a situation and felt confused that nobody else seemed bothered by it? Why does it bother you, and not another? What makes the difference is what you believe about the event and this is very powerful because it shows us that we can take control over what we feel, do and think.

As is explained in “How Your Unconscious Mind Works”, we all have many beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. These beliefs shape the way we experience the world and can lead to feelings, behaviours and thoughts we don’t want. Many therapeutic techniques aim to help us become aware of our unhealthy beliefs and then to change them. CBH does the same and follows a step-by-step process to train us to manage our beliefs, and therefore ourselves.
